ZSentry provides best usability & best security, and benefits both Desktop and Cloud:

The two most important requirements of an information system for business use are security and usability. In point-by-point studies, various performance criteria have been evaluated for different implementations of the same technology, and then summarized in terms of security and usability. The graph provides a visualization of the relative positions of each information security technology in terms of security and usability, measured using secure email as an application example. The bubbles represent uncertainty due to implementation differences.

As the graph shows, ZSentry is qualitatively better in both security and usability than PGP, PKI/X.509 and IBE. Moreover, ZSentry also supports PKI/X.509 and PGP, and extends these standards in significant ways. An important issue solved, of course, is the problem of initial contact. ZSentry allows secure first contact and reply without previous interaction (e.g., exchanging passwords, requiring registration) or work (e.g., searching a directory, solving puzzles), and provides a number of life-cycle control functions, including release and expiration. ZSentry also supports SAML and SSO, so that it can be part of a federated-identity ecosystem.

ZSentry enables ZSentry Desktop to function seamlessly with Microsoft Outlook and other desktop Mail clients, including Apple Mail and Thunderbird, without any download, installation, or plugins.

This integration is a two-way street. The critical significance of Outlook and other desktop Mail clients for business communications also requires that a secure email solution cannot be used independently of the established desktop Mail clients, with a large user base.

Even more importantly, business users commonly prefer to have their data local for privacy and control. It is also much easier for dealing with moderate to high mail volume, incoming or outgoing. Furthermore, with ZSentry Desktop you can integrate data from different applications and different sources on the desktop in ways that you cannot readily do with cloud Apps, such as in sending secure personalized messages merging each recipient's name and records.

How about cloud Apps and SaaS? ZSentry enhances the security of cloud Apps and SaaS (Software-as-a-Service), thereby improving acceptance.

Indeed, computing in the "cloud" has attractive cost points but faces an acceptance barrier due to the security problem of protecting servers and clients against breaches due to penetration attacks. This makes companies nervous about trusting their emails and trade secrets to a cloud App today. While risks can usually be mitigated by building in layers of redundancy, this does not apply to disclosure, where risks increase with redundancy — more copies means more risks.

ZSentry, however, leapfrogs today's cloud App problems. You can now use cloud Apps such as Gmail and Google Apps even more securely, similarly to what is offered with the ZSentry Desktop solution. How? ZSentry is effective because it eliminates the online copy and storage of passwords and keys, thus eliminating the risk. Uniquely, with ZSentry you have no targets online. With ZSentry, your emails are stored locally with you, and encrypted if you wish. Your login credentials and your keys are not stored anywhere, so that there is no password or user key list that could be attacked online. Without a key anywhere to be found, all your files, which are encrypted, are just gibberish if captured by an attacker. ZSentry further protects your identity, with name and email address authentication provided by cryptographic challenge-response, with two-factor authentication and anti-spoofing.

Conventionally, the market approach to provide secure email for Outlook and other desktop Mail clients has been based on plugins, allowing a secure email module to integrate with the desktop email application.

Plug-ins, however, must be downloaded, installed, updated and configured. Plug-ins usually breakdown and must be re-downloaded and re-installed when the base application is updated, which can be quite frequently mandated due to security concerns. In addition, plugins may not be compatible with each other, so that updating a plugin for a different use may break the secure email use.

ZSentry presents a clean solution to these email security and usability problems. By not using plugins at all, ZSentry also reduces the development and support costs for everyone which, by a large margin, reduces our selling price and your Total Ownership Cost margin over the purchase price.

ZSentry also does not prevent you from updating your email solution, or changing it to another brand. Because ZSentry follows established technical standards, the ZSentry solution, with all your personalization options, will work with your email solution today and in the future.

More than empower your Mail client to send secure email, ZSentry supports mobility, usability, security, and versatility.

Mobility, which is important for your laptop and roaming office needs, is supported by several features of ZSentry. For example, ZSentry uses port 465 for SSL/SMTP communication. This port is not usually blocked by firewalls at hotels and mobile contact points (WiFi), that routinely block port 25 for submitting emails. This allows you to send secure email where sending regular email is blocked. You can also securely tunnel through insecure WiFi connections.

Security and usability are supported by unforgeable (cryptographic) authentication of both your name and email address when using ZSentry, with the further benefit of protecting your identity against impersonation (identity theft), and help prevent phishing and spam (by recipients who use ZSentry).

The unforgeable authentication of both name and email address by ZSentry solves some critical usability and security problems relating to key-signing and certificate distribution in X.509/PKI, and is digitally equivalent to X.509/PKI unforgeable authentication, but without purchasing a CA certificate and having to safe-keep the private-key.

Versatility is supported because ZSentry will send your message (for example, an email or an electronic payment request) encrypted according to the choices customized by you using the ZSentry Dashboard (with secure access after login through ZSentry App), including document control (eg, self-destruct), delivery, and tracking options.

After you finish a simple SSL/SMTP setup, the high level of security and versatility achieved by ZSentry will still cost just the work of 1-click to send or read, as with ZSentry Web, but now with potentially increased productivity by using your own mail file systems, templates, and workflow integration, through familiar Mail clients and cloud Apps.
